The Danish Gambit is looked upon as one of the more aggressive type of openings to a chess move. This is where White will initially sacrifice a few pawns just in order to gain time, and therefore launch an early attack on Black.
The Danish Gambit happens after the moves:
- e4 e5
- d4 exd4
- c3
So for the sake of getting a quick start, white will sacrifice one or two pawns and start the attack. However, and with careful thought, black can decide to accept one or both pawns safely. Or you can simply decline the offer altogether.
If black decides to accept the offer, white now has a strong bishop pair developed staring right across at the black’s king side. While at the same time, black will not have any of his pieces developed.
It is important if accepted that white hold on to his bishop pair as the open board. This will allow white to keep the pressure on black.
